MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AIFF, WMA, or any video, whose soundtrack is used.

About this tool

Converts audio between twelve formats, lossy and lossless, and will take the soundtrack out of a video file just as happily. Bitrate, sample rate, channels and bit depth are all adjustable, and anything a chosen format cannot accept is corrected and reported rather than silently ignored.

How to use it

  1. 1Drop an audio file, or a video whose soundtrack you want.
  2. 2Choose the output format.
  3. 3Adjust bitrate, sample rate, channels or bit depth if the format uses them.
  4. 4Convert and download.

Good to know

The limits were measured, not guessed

Every combination the interface offers was run through the encoder before being offered. Vorbis, for instance, will not take 320 kbps at 22.05 kHz in mono, and AC-3 refuses 22.05 kHz outright. Those ceilings are enforced up front, and any adjustment is listed before you convert.

Lossless means lossless

FLAC, ALAC, WAV and AIFF reproduce the samples exactly. Converting a lossy file into one of them cannot restore what the original encoder discarded; it only makes a larger file.

Endianness is pinned

WAV is written little-endian and AIFF big-endian, which is what each format expects. Getting that wrong produces a file that opens and plays as noise.
